Wearing tank tops in Japan: Don’t

Apparently, women are not supposed to wear tank tops in Japan. Today and yesterday are the first (and last, obviously) days I’m wearing a tank top and I get quite some stares. You may think that I should be used to that by now, but let me put it this way: This is a whole new level of being stared at. I’m being stared at checked out by guys, in creepy ways.

Apparently, you’re not supposed to show your shoulders as a woman, people think it’s slutty. I heard of a girl being asked if she wanted to go with a guy. He even offered money. :O I got into a weird situation as well. A guy was driving a scooter at the other side of the street and he pulled over at my side and asked in Japanese if I was a foreigner. He said ‘gaijin-san’ and I felt quite uncomfortable – creepy old guy – so I shrugged him off and he left. Whew!

I don’t get it… People of Japan! Your girls are walking around in skirts that would barely qualify as belts in my opinion! Yet I am the one being stared at by guys and approached by creepy old men while I wear a tank top and long trousers?

I’m not bothered by it, but I want to share this, it just goes against all common sense, in my opinion…
